Miracles John 6:1-14

A miracle is something that can only happen with God's power. Our Bible reading today tells us about a miracle Jesus did.

Jesus was teaching a large group of people, they became hungry and He wanted to feed them. The only food they had was a boy's lunch - five loaves of barley bread and two little fish. Jesus used this small lunch and fed more than five thousand people. That's a miracle!

Mark 8:1-9 tells us about another miracle Jesus did, this time He fed more than four thousand with seven loaves of bread and a few small fish. A miracle!

The important thing about these miracles is not that Jesus fed the people. The important thing to know is that these miracles show us Jesus is truly God's son.

Today we can read about Jesus' miracles in the New Testament. We can know that Jesus is God's son. I hope you will share the Good News of Jesus with others today...and remind them that: Faith + Obedience + Salvation.

God's Friend - Day Three

Friends share their burdens with each other. It's like moving a heavy box. It is much easier if a friend helps. In the same way, it is much easier for me to face troubles if I share them with a friend.

If God is really our friend we will share our burdens with Him, and He wants that to happen. Oh, with our friend there may be some burdens we are not excited about helping with, (My best friend is about to move to a new house, and I am not very excited about the prospects of helping with that "Burden" again.) But we do want our friends to come to us and let us try to help. Some friend may have even said to you,"You should have let me know" or "I wish you had come to me".

We share our troubles with God through prayer. Some may be concerned about how well they communicate with God. Verse 26 of our Bible Reading says, "Also, the Spirit helps us. We are very weak, but the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We don't know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself speaks to God for us. He begs God for us, speaking to Him with feelings too deep for words."

God's Holy Spirit lives in each of us that faithfully obey God's will. When we pray the Holy Spirit helps us communicate with God. He is our Interpreter. This is how we can share our burdens with our Friend.

What troubles are you facing today? Maybe you are sick, or having a financial problem. Maybe you are lonely, or struggling with sin. Share your burdens with God, He will understand and act as your friend.

God's Friend: Day Three

It is very important that friends listen to each other. This can happen by listening to a friend's voice or by watching a friend sign.

When things happen in our lives we need a friend who will be there. God wants to be the one in our lives. If we want to be God's friend, we should listen to Him. How do we listen to God?

Our Bible reading today tells us that we can listen to God by reading and thinking about His word. Verse 2 says, "A good person loves the Lord's teaching. He thinks about them day and night."

It is important that we read God's word. (Rom. 10:17) It is also important for us to think about what God says, and put it into action in our life. (James 1:22) When we really pay attention to God's will, we learn how we should live.

Be sure that you "listen" to your friend...God today. Take time to read Psalm 1:1-6 and think about His will.

Faith + Obedience = Salvation

God's Friend: Day Two

Sometimes I meet people who always worry, then there are others who never worry. For those people, the non-worryer, nothing seems to bother them very much. When problems come, they are calm, and able to overcome. It even makes it easy to see a very close relationship with God when a person is relaxed and joyful.

I asked a person that I believe lives just this way, "What is the difference?.." "It is because God is my friend." Then my friend went on to explain to me that I needed to tell people who worry to remember that God wants to be our friend, and to talk to God.

Our Bible reading shows us that Joshua had a close friendship with God. Joshua obeyed God, and God helped him lead the people of Israel in great victories. In verse 9, God told Joshua, "So don't be scared, because the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

God wants you to be His friend. Love Him, talk to Him, and obey Him.

Faith + Obedience = Salvation

GOD'S FRIEND

Today's Bible reading Exodus 33:8-11

When a person learns of God, it is not long till they realize God will always be their friend. As we follow and obey God, He listens to us and helps us.

As I grew in my relationship with God, I realized that true friends do not just take from each other. Friends also give to each other. We should not just expect God to listen to us, we should also listen to Him.

Our Bible reading today tells us about a time when God "spoke to Moses face to face. The Lord spoke to Moses like a man speaks with His friend" (verse 11) God may not speak to us face to face today, but He does speak to us through His word, the Bible. If God is our friend, we should pay attention to His words in the Bible.

I hope God is your friend, and I hope you will hear Him when He speaks to you! Romans 10:17

Over the next few days, we will talk more about how we can be God's friend.

I hear people talk about times in their lives when there has been some problem. They were upset or sad or just felt hopeless. That's when I ask them, if they have asked God for help.

God will help and wants to help. It is in those times someone shows up at our door to help. Maybe it is just a big smile, or an encouraging letter in the mail. God uses people and He cares about me.

Verse 7 of our Bible reading reminds us that we belong to God. Never forget that God knows you, your needs, and He loves you.

Today's Bible Reading Psalm 95:1-7

06 August 2009

Someone told me, a supposedly true story about two men, both dying. One of the men had never followed God. His life had been filled with sin and sadness. He did have some family who gathered around him. They watched as the man cried and screamed, and even talked about seeing demons from Hell. Finally the man died.

The second man was a Christian and even served as an Elder in the church. The scene was very different as he died. He shook hands and hugged the many family members and friends that were there with him. Then, with a smile he said, "I see Jesus. I am going to meet my Savior!"

I don't know if the story about the two men is an actual account, or just a great lesson. Certainly, these stories are very different. The first man was afraid, and the second man had no fear of death. Verse 17 of our Bible reading says, "If God's love is made perfect in us, then we can be without fear on the day when God judges..."

Christians do not need to fear death or the punishment of Hell. Why? Because they have faithfully obeyed God and have the promise (God's promise) of salvation and eternal life with God.

Be sure that you love and obey God today. Faith+ Obedience + Salvation!

05 August 2009

Joshua led God's people to a new land, the Promised Land. After winning much of the land, he divided the land among the family groups of Israel.

The family group of Joseph (tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh) was very large. They felt that the land they received was not big enough for all their people. So Joshua told them to "Go take that land", the hill country. (verse 15) and even challenged them to face their fear, be strong in the Lord. (verse 17 & 18)

God provided these people with more land, but the land was not ready for them to live in. First, they had to defeat the people who were living there. Then, cut down all the trees, clearing the land to make it usable.

God promised to give us what we need, to be with us, and to help us. But God will not do everything for us without us working. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 "...if anyone will not work, neither shall he eat." Often God gives us a job, or talents, so we can provide things for ourselves, and even help others. He wants us to work hard at our jobs. That is one way we serve Him.

Romans 12:11 says, "As you serve the Lord, work hard and don't be lazy. Be excited about serving Him!" This same work ethic should carry over into spiritual things as well. Get excited about working hard, and about serving God!

03 August 2009

When I was young, I went to church camps and VBS every summer. One week, we played a game that was about trust. There were two people. One person was blindfolded and the other served as guide. The guide led the blindfolded person through a course, first by holding his hand, then by voice commands, to get the blind team mate to where he needed to go. Sometimes teams had problems, and even ran into things...mainly when they did not follow the leader.

When we hang on to God's hand and let Him lead, the road to eternal life may not always be smooth, but God will be there and take care of us. When we face problems and want to quit, God wants us to take His hand and let Him lead.

In our Bible reading today, God told Abram to leave His country and his people. God said He would show Abram (Abraham) where to go, God wanted Him to trust. Because Abraham did...God did! God blessed him in many ways.

God wants us to trust Him even when we don't know where He is leading us.

You can trust God, can God trust you?
